Our bases
Flexibility, Beautiful Contrasts & Belonging
What is home ?
On our flexible jouney “homes” have found us. We call them “our bases”. Home is no longer just one physical space. It’s a flexible home, with beautiful contrasts and a deep feeling of belonging. Today we have three main bases - The White Mountain Village, The Italian Villa, The Beach, and beside those we have several more “mini-bases” that we return to around the world.
By welcoming you in behind the scenes of how we design our flexible life, we hope to inspire you to create your own spaces of comfort and contrast, wherever you may find yourself in the world. Our goal is to celebrate the diversity of "homes" that each person can create and find their own unique sense of belonging.
What does your future dream “home” look like? Only your imagination is the limit. Even when you start on a smaller budget. Some love the countryside dream, the van life, the three generation households, multiple bases, the eco village, the boat life, the sharing concept or a fantastic flexible combination. It all starts with knowing yourself. Or more accurately, who do you want to become?
We love authentically designing a combination of experiences each year, from bustling “city life”, “getting out of our comfort zone” experiences, to being close to nature the “blue zones” way. When living a flexible life design the adventure is part of life, not an extra cost. We have tested more than 100 homes around the world and through that we really got to know ourselves deeply and what's important to us.

Some of our bases
and the stories of how we found them
When we began traveling we never set out to find “a new home”. Rather it was the places we kept returning to that slowly but surely turned into something more - we started to become a part of them as much as they became a part of us. Yet we were not obligated to return or stay - we could come and go as we pleased - but every time we did come back we were welcomed with open arms.
We look at the idea of "home" today with excitement. We can see that the more flexible organization of life is disrupting the notion of the place dependent home. The rich have always had multiple homes but with the new work/life possibilities of today more people are getting access to this privilege. At U8760 we explore what the future of “home” will be.
After all, life is an adventure. Welcome to the beauty of creating a home out-of-the-box.
At 643 meters above the sea, nestled among olive groves and sheep farms, rests a village as if sprung out from the mountain itself. Along winding cobblestone and white- washed houses not much has changed in the last centuries. Lounging on park benches in the morning sun the elders gossip until the church bells ring, a sign that the siesta has started. Not thirty minutes later the stifling quiet that fills the street makes it almost impossible to imagine the bustle just moments ago - shopkeepers shouting out orders, young mothers picking up excited children from school, vespas challenging tractors for limited space on the roads. This is Spain in it’s truest form. This is the Pueblo Blanco. And within 1-2 hours you easily reach three of Andalucia’s most famous & bustling cities.
The White Village
The Italian Villa
When you travel among the rolling hills of the Italian countryside, passing vineyards and olive groves, you will once in a while happen upon a village strategically placed upon one of the hilltops during a time when such precautions were necessary to fend off enemies. Donning that typically medieval look, these villages are a mishmash of sand stone houses, all a different height than the next, some painted in pinks, others in greens, and a big clocktower marking the center of civilization. If you then keep following a cypress adorned avenue to just outside town you will find yourself before a marvelous villa. With a little luck this country home for the wealthy would still belong to the same family that have presided over this valley for generations. And with some more luck the matriarch of this family just happens to be home. Three eager dachshunds dancing around her feet and a big smile on her lips she invites you in for tea where it’s revealed she’s just turned the west wing into an apartment. Would you like to stay?

At the southern tip of the Iberian peninsula, right where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, a small coastal village lies in a bay as if untouched by the outside world. Enclosed by the surrounding mountains it was not sixty years ago it's inhabitants had to travel by horse on the beach to get to the nearest town. To this day nature masters this place - animals roam freely and days are literally planned after which way the wind blows. Only difference now is a small road allowing visitors in over the hills - a few surfers in colorful vans and the occasional history geek that's gotten wind of the roman ruins situated at the foot of the sand dune. The villagers, made up of about a dozen families, have turned some of their farmhouses into hostels. But these they open up only when they feel like it and aren't tending to their cows or out tuna fishing.
It is this no-hurry mentality you develop when spending time here. This deep sense of calm. You can feel it in the early summer evenings, when you crack open a window to let in the cool ocean breeze and the steady heartbeat of crashing waves envelopes you. At the moment the sun sets over the pine trees lighting up everything in a glow of pinks and oranges, the first lights of the Moroccan night twinkle to life across the bay and you know that everything will be alright.
The Beach
The English Cottage
A mini base
The English countryside lies quiet in the morning mist. The first sunlight breaking through the trees, turning thousands of dewy drops into diamonds. At this early even the rooster still sleeps but it only takes a few seconds shuffling through the kitchen til I feel two wet noses pressed against my calves. Despite their old ages there is nothing wrong with the hearing on these cockerpoos, especially when it's time for food. I oblige the wagging tails, scooping generous amounts of dry feed with one hand while stuffing a biscuit into my own mouth with the other. When they've finished I have stepped into some boots three sizes too big but placed conveniently close to the door and it's off to the stables.
Summer days at Apple Tree cottage usually start like this. Thirty minutes after waking I'm sat on horseback beginning our descent into the deep Wessex forest. You might be fooled by the seclusion of this little hamlet but trudging along the forest paths it’s apparent these aren't any random roads. This earth has been stomped up long before I was ever even conceptualized, long before England was ever even thought about. For centuries they've been the highways guiding kings and monks and peasants alike between the important places of southern Britain. It’s amazing the peace of a forest that’s seen so much. The ancient oak trees whisper stories - a deceased queen being transported to her final resting place, an outlaw stealing from wealthy merchants, a viking army on their way to battle. As I come to a fork in the road I am met with a choice - a cathedral in the east or a castle in the west?
